    Interview with Stephen Dedalus (1914)

*as facilitator* Thanks to modern technosorcery, Opening Ulysses can compress a decade into a week, so if you’ve ever wondered what Stephen Dedalus did after he left Mr Bloom, you can ask him now.

*as Stephen* I have flown and so has time. Ask me what you will.

I wonder, Stephen. What are your thoughts on the war in Europe?

      • Elizabeth Kate Switaj 9:49 pm on May 12, 2013 Permalink

*as Stephen* That I was right not to sign that petition for universal peace. See how much it changed?

    Interview with Stephen Dedalus (1904)

*as facilitator* Stephen Dedalus is here to answer your questions.

*as facilitator* are you disappointed you never appeared in Finnegans Wake?

      • Elizabeth Kate Switaj 10:06 pm on May 5, 2013 Permalink

*as Stephen* Why, but I am there, at least in spirit, with “dean of idlers . . . at Backlane Univarsity” in the tenth chapter, or so I’ve been told. Say what you will about my childish villanelle, I have written (and never will) write anything so confusing and confused as Finnegans Wake.

If to the west lies the ‘real’ Ireland, to the east lies the ‘old enemy’, and to the south lies the continent, where do I end up if I take the train from Amiens Street?

      • Elizabeth Kate Switaj 7:41 pm on May 18, 2013 Permalink

*as Stephen* Wherever you get off.

    • Shaun Mac Irewick 7:59 pm on May 6, 2013 Permalink

Tell me, young man, why must you always pee on the parade of progress? Your sneering cynicism encapsulates everything that is wrong with this generation.

      • Elizabeth Kate Switaj 7:48 pm on May 7, 2013 Permalink

        *as Stephen*

Progress? I’ve yet to see it. As for my generation, it’s nothing to do with me, and if it were, I would hope to be everything your kind sees as wrong with it.

    • Kevin Schwartz 10:14 pm on May 6, 2013 Permalink

*as facilitator* You are obviously extremely talented, but maybe not so focused. Do you feel you’ve “lived up to your potential”? What are some of your proudest artistic accomplishments?

      • Elizabeth Kate Switaj 8:58 pm on May 9, 2013 Permalink

*as Stephen* I am as focused as my stomach and poverty will allow me to be. More than most in this country. My proudest artistic accomplishment is myself and my refusal to serve.

    First Interview!

    *as Leopold Bloom*

Yes, well, I am . . . present as it were for questioning. Ask me.

    *as facilitator*

Feel free to ask Mr Bloom any questions you may have and, if you wish, to slip into his character to answer.

So Mr Bloom, what are your top 5 favourite organ meats?

      • Elizabeth Kate Switaj 11:27 pm on March 17, 2013 Permalink

        *as Leopold Bloom*

I like a thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, and most of all, I like grilled mutton kidneys which give to the palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine.

If you would let me add a number six, fried hencods’ roes are fine as well.

    • Pat L 9:44 pm on March 17, 2013 Permalink

So Mr Bloom, you seem concerned with the insides of things? But not their outsides?

      • Elizabeth Kate Switaj 8:40 pm on March 22, 2013 Permalink

        *as Bloom*

Outsides are fine, too. Only how it works. I want to see. Inside.

    • Pat L 7:18 pm on March 28, 2013 Permalink

      *as James Joyce*

How do you feel about the way I told your story?

      • Elizabeth Kate Switaj 9:24 pm on April 1, 2013 Permalink

*as Bloom* I must admit I am still trying, attempting to read it.
